David "Ziggy" Marley, the eldest son of the iconic Bob Marley, has forged his own successful career. Both he and brother Stephen began performing on stage with their father in the late 1970s. In 1979, at their father's request, Ziggy, Stephen and sisters Sharon and Cedella formed the Melody Makers. They found their own voice apart from their late father by the mid-'80s and released 10 studio albums and a live effort before disbanding in 2002. Ziggy has released six solo albums and three studio albums since 2003, along with three children's albums.

The Roots

Rap/Hip Hop
Philadelphia-based group The Roots showed the way for live rap, building on Stetsasonic's "hip-hop band" philosophy of the mid-'80s, by focusing on live instrumentation at their concerts and in the studio. The band is featured nightly on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." The show increased their fame and soon Grammy awards, movie gigs and book deals were offered to many members of the band.

Psychedelic Furs

Rock, Alternative
The Psychedelic Furs, whose name belies their punk-influenced music, were formed in England in 1977 by brothers Richard and Tim Butler, along with saxophone player Duncan Kilburn and guitarist Roger Morris. By the time they released their self-titled debut album in 1980, the group had become a sextet, adding guitarist John Ashton and drummer Vince Ely. That album reached the Top 20 in England. "Talk Talk Talk" of 1981 reached the U.S. Top 100. "Forever Now" (1982) saw the band reduced to a quartet with the departure of Kilburn and Morris. The rest moved to the U.S., turned to producer Todd Rundgren, and scored a U.S. Top 50 hit with "Love My Way." Ely then left, and the remaining trio of the two Butlers and Ashton made "Mirror Moves" (1984), the biggest Psychedelic Furs hit yet. They reunited in 2000.

Amos Lee

R&B/Soul, Folk, Blues
Taking inspiration from soul greats, Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers, and folk legends, John Prine and Dave Van Ronk, Amos Lee directs his music with a spirit and presence rooted in American tradition. Amos delivers a unique brand of folk-soul music that aims to unite, uplift, and inspire. The "folk" side is reflected in his nimble acoustic guitar playing and the intimacy of his live performances. The "soul" strain comes through in the engaging song-poetry of his lyrics and in what the Philadelphia Inquirer described as his "easygoing voice" and "raw, unedited emotion."
