Jackson Burgess - Poetry & Music

Poetry Reading/Spoken Word
Join us for an evening with poet Jackson Burgess, author of the new book Atrophy, along with special musical guests Mortimer and Jessie Branch. Burgess is a nationally touring poet whose writing explores depression, empathy, loneliness, love and substance abuse. Noted poet David St. John, a National Book Award nominee for poetry, says, “Jackson Burgess is the most dazzling, urgently urban and unfailingly inventive young chronicler of lost highways and avenues of broken dreams since the early poems of Denis Johnson and the ballads of Tom Waits.” Mortimer is the solo project of Skyler Garn, a graduate of USC's Contemporary Music Program. As Mortimer, Skyler performs high-energy yet introspective songs that combine classic rock roots with synth pop and indie rock. Jessie Branch is the vocalist, songwriter and guitarist for the Olympia-based band Erina. Her music centers around ethereal yet powerful vocals, and explores themes relating to life, death, love, and dreams.

Craig Holt Reading from Hard Dog to Kill

Signing/Readings
Join us for an evening with Craig Holt, author of the new book, Hard Dog to Kill. Holt is touring in celebration of his 2018 gold medal from the Independent Publishers Book Awards. Beth Jusino, author of Choosing Higher Ground: Working and Living in the Values Economy, writes, “This darkly comic debut has more plot twists and traps than the Congo River, and memorable characters who lingered in my mind for weeks. It’s smart, relentless, violent and curiously introspective.”
