(no rating) Oct 17, 2009 - gwgrape on Maia Santell
Maia Santell, The Pacific Northwest Queen of Swing!

Maia Santell is one of the Northwest's most dynamic and refreshingly believable vocalists. Her voice, like that of her mother, Lola Suga, is clear, warm and natural--totally free of the contrived theatricality that besets many of her contemporaries.
A descendant of the Jackson Street era of jazz and swing (see Paul de Barros's book, "Jackson Street After Hours"), Maia's uncle (Frank Sugia), stepfather (Johnny Forrest), and her mom (Lola Sugia)and dad were prominent musicians during the 40's throughout the 70's. Supported by the seasoned musicians of House Blend, Santell provides one of the most exhilarating and swingin' sounds on the Northwest jazz and blues scene. Doug Bright, "Heritage Music Review".
