Slavery in the Northwest: Eva Abram tells the Charles Mitchell Story

Thursday, Feb 28, 2013 7:30p to 9:00p

Actress, storyteller, and Humanities Washington speaker Eva Abram shares the story of Charles Mitchell, a slave brought to Washington territory in 1853. His break for freedom nearly brought the U.S. and Canada to war. Through this story, Abram will examine and discuss how ideologies move geographically. The migration to Washington attracted Americans with different socioeconomic experiences from both Northern and Southern states. Did moving to Washington affect peoples’ opinions on slavery?
