Researching the CCC in Washington
Janet Oakley, author of the novel Tree Soldier: A Novel of Love, Forgiveness, and the Great Depression, will present a talk, highlighting holidays at the camps.
If you have ever hiked, seen the Warming Hut up near Mount Baker, spent a night in a state campground or hiked a trail, then you have seen work by young men enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1933-1941. Many of these young men came from some of the poorest places back east while others came from the Pacific Northwest.
