Talks/Lectures, Talks/Lectures
This talk will explore the cultural and political histories that have shaped contemporary masculinities, attending specifically to how former President Donald Trump's performance of gender reflects the anxieties catalyzed by the waning legitimacy of misogyny, heterosexism, and white supremacy. Dr. Alex Miller is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Ethnic, Gender, and Labor Studies at the University of Washington Tacoma. His courses embody the interdisciplinary spirit of the university's Tacoma campus. Drawing upon his background in literary studies, his current scholarship seeks to explore how contemporary authors imagine transformations within the gender order resulting from deindustrialization and the concomitant rise of global, neoliberal economic relations.
